New Compliance Standards
Industry information came from Alberta Municipal Affairs on January 1st, 2015 on a new law regarding the Canadian Oil & Gas Industry came into effect which established new mandates for compliance to a previously unenforced gas code, CSA B149. The code stipulates the implementation, operation and inspection of all gas fired equipment. CSA B149 has been in place for over 40 years but, until now, was never enforced in the Oil & Gas industry by Alberta Municipal Affairs.
As of January 1st, 2015, CSA B149 became a part of the gas safety regulations included in the Alberta Safety Codes Act, now making it enforceable by law. Since this legislative action, compliance has become a priority for operating companies as failure to do so will result in substantial financial penalties.
